Adult Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any any age.
It is a common misconception that adults cannot receive
orthodontic treatment like children and teens. Adult
orthodontics is becoming more popular today and now
there are more cosmetic choices available. With modern
advances, adults can explore a variety of treatment options
such as the newest generation in-ovation-braces brackets,
clear braces and Invisalign.

Invisalign

Invisalign® is one of the newest advances in orthodontics.
In addition to metal and clear braces, you can now be a candidate
for a clear “invisible” solution.  Invisalign is a patented system
where 3-D computer imaging is used to create an accurate image
of your teeth. A series of custom clear aligners are manufactured
that fit over your teeth, and gradually  straighten them without the
need for metal wires or braces. The Invisalign system has been
proven effective in clinical research and in orthodontic practices
worldwide. However, only a certified orthodontist  like Dr. Azar,
can undertake this procedure. Dr. Azar was among the first group
of doctors to become certified in Invisalign. Dr. Azar is an
Invisalign Preferred Provider orthodontist, which means she is
among the top 5% of all Invisalign Providers in North America
and that she has successfully treated more cases than most dentists
and orthodontists combined.

In-Ovation® C (clear) brackets system

Designed to create an aesthetic appearance,
the In-Ovation® C (clear) brackets system uses high translucency
and rhodium-coated clip technology, making the braces less visible.
The self-ligating clip offers the advantages of the
In-Ovation R (metal) brackets (metal) brackets, but the clear
color appeals to image-conscious patients who want their braces to
appear less noticeable.

Benefits of self-ligating brackets include:

Less friction
Decreased plaque development
Fewer office visits
Shorter treatment time
In-Ovation C (clear) brackets allow you to maximize these advantages while wearing
a more attractive, less obvious bracket system.

ITERO DIGITAL SCANNING: SAY GOODBYE TO GOOEY IMPRESSIONS!

Providing our patients with a comfortable and positive experience
that they can’t find elsewhere is one of our team’s primary goals.
Here’s our best approach: we strive to incorporate the newest
technologies available, which not only ensures fantastic results,
but also allows for a more comfortable in-office experience.
Today we’d like to introduce the Itero Digital Scanner.

The ITero scanning wand lets us take hundreds of 3D impressions/photos
of our patients’ teeth in minutes. These photos are then displayed on a
computer, providing 3D imaging of the mouth from any angle.
The iTero scanner helps provide a clear 3D image and results in an
accurately fitted appliance, for better results more comfortably.
This state of the art machine allows us to permanently retire that
uncomfortable, gooey, impressions material typically used to get
a full picture of your, or your child’s teeth.

Another positive aspect of using the iTero scanner is that it’s directly
linked with the Invisalign system, which allows Dr. Arleen Azar-Mehr to
use clear aligners to straighten teeth. Once the patient is scanned,
their images are sent directly to Invisalign. The final result?
Shorter appointments, faster treatment timeframes, and the ability
to see the end result ahead of time. Pretty cool, right?

So, the next time you hear the word “impressions,” don’t worry!
The iTero Scanner will give Dr. Azar-Mehr the information she needs
without you or your child having to bite into that gooey, goopy stuff!

If you're considering orthodontics for yourself or your child, call us for a
free consultation. We'd love to meet you! 818-886-6666.

The Dangers Of Do it Yourself Orthodontics

It’s official: Do It Yourself Orthodontics have gone viral on the internet. There are numerous videos and blogs showing how you can easily close gaps between your teeth or space them out all on your own. They cite DIY techniques as simple as wrapping rubber bands around your teeth to more complex procedures like mail ordering your own impressions to get clear aligners - all without ever visiting a dentist or orthodontist. Many people are trying these DIY methods as a way to save money while achieving the smile they’ve always wanted, but what they don’t realize is that they can have awful consequences.
Performing DIY or at-home orthodontics can lead to and/or cause:
  • Loss of teeth
  • Infection
  • Cavities or infections that are missed or undiagnosed
  • Gum damage
One of the worst parts about DIY orthodontics is that you never consult with a trained orthodontist, so you're really operating on a dangerous lack of information. You’re not seeking orthodontic treatment from professionals that have received the proper education and experience, but instead taking a risk of causing damage to your teeth or a dangerous infection.
Dr. Arleen Azar-Mehr can help you achieve what you want to accomplish with your teeth and will help you find the safest and most cost-effective way to achieve it. Our team wants you to be informed and practical about your oral health. Should you have any questions about orthodontic treatment options available, please call us at (818) 886-6666 or click here to request a complimentary consultation.

Dr. Arleen Azar-Mehr Appointed President of the USC Orthodontic Alumni Association

As an alumna of the orthodontic program at the University of Southern California, I'm humbled and delighted to have been appointed President of the USC Orthodontic Alumni Association. I truly look forward to giving back to the USC Orthodontic Department, which has given me so much over the years since I graduated.

The primary purpose of the Alumni Association is to serve as a liaison between the Orthodontic Department and its Alumni. We keep graduates in touch with the latest news and events that occur at the school, sponsor continuing education courses and play an important role in giving students the opportunity to represent the School by visiting other Programs in different countries throughout the world.

The Alumni Association also sponsors key networking events like the Alumni reception at the American Association of Orthodontics annual meeting, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists annual session, the USC Orthodontic Department holiday party and the USC graduation party each year. We also support and help the USC Orthodontic Department in fundraising and reaching out to fellow graduates to raise money for the Department. Ask me about how it’s going at your next visit!

With kind regards,
Dr. Arleen Azar-Mehr
